I was trying to light a second candle
From one that was already burning
So I held the second candle
Upside down
On top of the burning first
Wax melted
Dripped and mixed
The wick remained cool
I pushed them closer to one another
There wasn't enough room for either
To breathe
The first flame suffocated
A drip of wax fell
And then
There was no fire left at all
Only the mixed wax
I took a lighter from my pocket
I lit both the candles
On my own
Which I could have done
The whole damned time.
